Serendip Sanctuary, on the outskirts of Lara, is the place to get up close and personal with Australian wildlife.
The sanctuary has nature trails through open enclosures housing kangaroos, emus and paddymelons. See if you can spot the Tawny Frogmouth in the aviary or catch some water bugs check out under the microscopes in the ponding area to.
Boardwalks and trails lead to birdhides and viewing areas. One hundred and fifty different species of birds can be spotted, including spoonbills, magpie geese and the bustard, with his odd throat pouch. If you're lucky the brolgas might even dance for you.
Serendip Sanctuary offers guided tours (fees apply) or you can follow your nose - the choice is yours.
